NFRSA clinches first GTC Summer Challenge T20 Women’s Trophy

The GTC Summer Challenge T20 Women’s Trophy is a domestic tournament played in Assam. It was the first edition of the league, took place from 23rd July to 8th August 2024, and featured a total of five teams – Gauhati Town Club Women, NFRSA Women, 91-Yards Club Women, New Star Club Women, and Corner Kick Women.

The venue allocated for the tournament was Judges Field, Guwahati. The tournament was played in a double round-robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the Super Four. The NFRSA, led by Monika Das, clinched the title by defeating Gauhati Town Club Women in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

NFRSA Women

The NFRSA put up a remarkable performance in the inaugural edition of the GTC Summer Challenge T20 Women’s Trophy. Monika Das’s side was undefeated in the group stages, winning all eight matches and topping the points table. In the Super Four stage, they won 4 out of the 6 matches, losing only one, to finish at the top of the Super Four as well. They faced Gauhati Town Club Women in the final and registered a victory by chasing down a total of 77. Their skipper, Monika Das, was the player of the match, scoring 45 runs and taking two wickets in the final. Monika Das was the leading run-scorer for the side with 366 runs in 14 matches and also the leading wicket-taker for NFRSA with 18 wickets.

Gauhati Town Club Women

The Gauhati Town Club was led by Priyanka Baruah in the GTC Summer Challenge T20 Women’s Trophy. They finished second in the points table in the group stages, winning five matches and losing three. They qualified for the Super Four, where they finished second on the table with three wins and two losses. Following their second position in the Super Four, they secured a spot in the final against NFRSA and signed off as the runners-up. Amontika Munda was their leading run-scorer and the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 373 runs in 14 matches. Mousumi Narah was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 24 wickets.

91-Yards Club Women

Ruhina Pegu led the 91-Yards Club in the first edition of the GTC Summer Challenge T20 Women’s Trophy. They finished third in the league stages with five wins and three losses, making it to the Super Four. In the Super Four stage, they finished third with as many wins, losses, and points, narrowly missing out on the final as Gauhati Town Club bettered them on NRR. Ruhina Pegu was the leading run-scorer for the side with 338 runs in 13 matches, while Hemlata Payeng finished with the most wickets for the side, claiming 15 wickets.

New Star Club Women

The New Star Club side was led by Urmila Chatterjee and though they had an ordinary outing, they made it to the Super Four after finishing fourth in the league stage, managing just 2 wins while suffering six defeats. The Urmilla Chatterjee-led side failed to win a single match in the Super Four, losing five matches, with one washout. Jyoti Devi was the top scorer for the side with 119 runs, whereas their skipper led the charts with the ball, claiming 13 wickets.

Corner Kick Women

Palak Mishra led the Corner Kick, who had a forgettable tournament, failing to win a single match in the league stage. They lost all eight matches, finishing at the bottom of the table. Tinamoni Patgiri was their leading scorer with 69 runs, while Sneha Sinha was the leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets in eight matches.
