Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team will tour Ireland for a limited-overs series from the 11th to the 20th of August 2024. The series will begin with a two-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series hosted at Pembroke, followed by a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series at Stormont. Cricket Ireland has announced their T20I and ODI squads for the series against Sri Lanka.
Laura Delany, who recently led the team in the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers 2024, will captain both squads for the limited-overs series against the Islanders. The last time the Islanders toured Ireland was back in 2013, and they are now scheduled for their first tour in over 10 years.
The missing names in the T20I squad from the team that last took the field in the T20 World Cup Qualifier are Jonathan Loughan, Louise Little, and Georgina Dempsey.
Batting all-rounder Christina Coulter-Reilly has received her maiden call-up. Apart from Christina, Alice Tector has also received her maiden call-up.
Alice Tector is part of the ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against the Islanders. This domestic season, Alice Tector featured for the Scorchers in the Super Series. She has scored 70 runs with the bat in four matches and has grabbed 10 wickets, making her the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing Super 50 Cup.
Freya Sargent, who missed out on the Irish squad for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, makes her return to the side. The bowling all-rounder last featured in Ireland’s T20I series against Zimbabwe in January 2024. Una Raymond-Hoey also returns to the side, being part of both squads, after having last featured for Ireland in 2019.

From the Irish 14-member squad for both the T20I and ODI series, thirteen players will feature in both formats, with Christina Coulter-Reilly featuring only in the T20Is and Alice Tector being part of the ODI squad only.
Ireland will look for an impressive display, having performed brilliantly in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers, remaining unbeaten in the group stages. Their only loss came in the semi-final against Scotland. Ireland had a 10-match winning streak before their loss in the semi-final.
Ireland will expect the likes of Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter to excel in the batting department. Gaby Lewis was Ireland’s leading run-scorer with 169 runs, while Amy Hunter was their second-leading run-scorer in that tournament. The focus will be on Arlene Kelly in the bowling department, who led the bowling chart for Ireland in the T20 World Cup Qualifiers with nine wickets. The team will expect her to perform well against a strong Lankan batting unit.
