Iconic venue returns as Cricket Australia reveals full schedule, for the Women’s Big Bash League 2024

A few months ago, Cricket Australia had announced a few changes that will be implemented from the upcoming iconic edition of the WBBL. The upcoming edition will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Women’s Big Bash League, since it’s inception in the year 2015.

The changes were announced to ensure a prolonged participation of the overseas and international stars. Cricket Australia allowed the clubs to sign one overseas player in the WBBL on a multi-year deal (1,2, or 3-year deal) outside of the draft, allowing them an opportunity of direct negotiation with a franchise of their choice. Former franchises will not be able to retain a player who signs a contract before the draft. From the 2025 edition (WBBL 11) of the Women’s Big Bash League players signed through a multi-year deal will also have to be available for the entire season including the knockout stages and the final of the tournament.

The reduction in the length of the tournament, trimming down the league matches from a total of 56 until the previous editions to just 40 from the upcoming edition. A shortened tournament will also mean that the participating teams will play a total of 10 matches, as compared to 14 previously in their campaign.

Cricket Australia has now finally revealed a full schedule for the upcoming milestone 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League. The iconic 10th edition of the WBBL will commence on 27th October 2024 and conclude on 1st December 2024. The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will make a return to the Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane after six years, having last hosted a WBBL game in the 4th edition of the tournament in the 2018-2019 season. A few other iconic venues in the country will also be hosting WBBL matches in the upcoming season, much like the previous edition.

“Creating the WBBL schedule is complex in working to ensure we can move the jigsaw pieces around to put the best games in the best slots at the best times. A fewer amount of matches (7 matches) will be played at the neutral venues this season as compared to the previous edition (10 matches). A greater amount of matches will be played in prime time so as to ensure that the maximum number of viewers can follow the girls in action at Foxtel Sports and Kayo Sports and on The Seven Network and 7plus as far as the digital medium is concerned.
