The Tasmania women’s cricket team, also known as the Tasmania Tigers, have finalized their squad list for the 2024-25 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season. The Tigers, reigning three-time WNCL Champions, aim to continue their success and chase their fourth consecutive title in the upcoming season.
As the Tigers move into pre-season training, many senior players are already under contract for the 2024-25 season. Hayley Silver-Holmes, Lauren Smith, and Lizelle Lee have all been re-signed for two seasons, while Maisy Gibson, Beth Lane, Emma Manix-Geeves, Tabatha Saville, and Callie Wilson are returning on one-year deals for another season.
The newest signing for them in the upcoming season is Ruth Johnston, who has featured for the Hobart Hurricanes in the past three Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) seasons. Meanwhile, former captain Sasha Moloney, who departs after a 13-year Tasmanian career, has signed with Victoria. Clare Scott also leaves the team, as she has not been offered a contract after making her debut in the 2021-22 season.
Head Coach of the Female Program, Jude Coleman, discussed her confidence in the 2024-25 Tasmania Tigers list. She emphasized the strength of their roster, which she believes will help maintain the momentum built over the past few seasons.
“We are confident that we have a strong list who can help continue the momentum we have built over the past few seasons,” Jude stated.
Jude is particularly excited to see Ruthy in the Tassie colours all year round, considering her an important aspect of the squad for the next season, along with all the re-signings from last season’s group.
“I am looking forward to seeing Ruthy don the Tassie colours all year round, and I am sure she will be an important aspect of our squad next season, along with all of our re-signings from last season’s group,” she added.
She also acknowledged the departures of Sash and Scotty, praising them as incredible people who will be sorely missed in the Tigers set-up and thanked them for all they have contributed to the squad.
“Sash and Scotty are both incredible people who will be sorely missed in the Tigers set-up, and I would love to thank them for all they have brought to our squad,” concluded Jude.
