Former Proteas cricketer Mignon du Preez and her spouse are expecting twins

Former South African cricketer and captain, Mignon du Preez, took to Instagram to share the exciting news that she and her husband, Tony van der Merwe, are expecting twins. She posted a sonogram picture along with two baby onesies, expressing their joy and anticipation.

The 35-year-old Proteas all-rounder, shared the news that she is expecting twins, sharing the exciting news on Father’s Day. She expressed her enthusiasm and readiness for this new chapter in their lives, acknowledging it as a significant and thrilling moment. Du Preez also thanked her supporters for their ongoing love and encouragement, looking forward to the future with a sense of joy and anticipation for the adventures ahead.

The duo got married in 2015, and the photo she shared garnered a lot of love and congratulatory messages from fans. The news of her pregnancy was met with an outpouring of joy from the cricketing community and beyond. Her former South African teammates Chloe Tryon, Laura Wolvaardt, and Shabnim Ismail, along with Indian cricketers Jemimah Rodrigues and Shikha Pandey, Australian players Amanda-Jade Wellington and Jess Jonassen, New Zealand’s Jess and Amelia Kerr, England’s Kate Cross, and West Indies’ Hayley Matthews, were among those who extended their heartfelt congratulations in the comments.

At present, Mignon du Preez plays for Brisbane Heat and Trinbago Knight Riders in franchise cricket but has retired from all formats on the international stage. She also has a stint as a cricket commentator and serves as the Ambassador for FairBreak Global, which holds the FairBreak Invitational T20 competition.

Mignon du Preez, a former batter for the Proteas, led the team in all three forms of cricket from 2007 to 2018. She made her debut in January 2007 at the age of seventeen against Pakistan. For South Africa, she played 269 international matches, scoring a total of 5,684 runs across all three formats. Du Preez last played for her country in August 2022, in a T20I against Sri Lanka.
