Jason Wells’ tenure as a White Ferns selector comes to an end

Former New Zealand batting all-rounder Jason Wells played 73 first-class matches, scoring 3058 runs at an average of 31.52 in 115 innings. His tally of runs includes 14 half-centuries and five centuries. He also played 81 list A matches, scoring 1729 runs at an average of 25.80 in 76 innings. His tally of runs includes 12 half-centuries and one century. He also represented Wellington Firebirds. After his retirement, he took up coaching.

In August 2019, he was appointed as the selector for the senior White Ferns women’s cricket team. He assisted with selection for White Ferns and Female Pathway squads for bilateral series, world events and central contracts. During his tenure, New Zealand won a bilateral series against India (February 2022), South Africa, suffered a group stage exit in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020, drew the three-match T20I series against Australia in March 2021, they bagged the historic Bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

They also went onto defeat West Indies (September 2022) and Bangladesh (December 2022), they suffered another group-stage exit in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023. As far as the ODI format is concerned, the White Ferns defeated India, West Indies, and Bangladesh, in a bilateral series. They suffered a group stage exit in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand.
