ACT Meteors signed Zoe Cooke, Shivani Mehta, Chelsea Moscript, and the Zimbabwean sensation Anesu Mushangwe for the upcoming domestic season.
The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Meteors Women led by skipper Katie Mack had a forgettable season in the 2023-24 edition of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) as they finished at the bottom of the points table with just four points to their name from 12 games in the league stages of the tournament.
Their solitary victory of the season came against the New South Wales (NSW) in the 32nd match of the season when they defeated them by four wickets at the Manuka Oval, in Canberra. Alisha Bates was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant innings (66 off 71 balls) with the bat. Skipper Katie Mack led from the front with the bat, as she was the leading run scorer for her side and the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 471 runs at a strike rate of 81.91 and an average of 47.10 in 12 innings.
Her tally of runs included three half-centuries and a century to her name. Her best performance with the bat in the season came on 18th January 2024 when she scored an unbeaten 140 runs at a strike rate of 108.52 against Victoria led by skipper Sophie Molineux. Her knock included 16 boundaries. However, her effort with the bat went in vain as ACT women ended up on the losing side by 92 runs.
As far as the bowling is concerned, pace bowling all-rounder Carly Leeson was the leading wicket-taker for her side with 11 wickets from 11 innings at an average of 32.18 and an economy of 5.33. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Meteors, in their bid to bounce back strongly in the upcoming edition have signed four new players namely, Zoe Cooke, the 28-year-old leg-spinner from Zimbabwe Anesu Mushangwe, the batting all-rounder Shivani Mehta, and the 28-year-old leg-spinner Chelsea Moscript for the upcoming edition of the WNCL. She is also known as the Queen of County Cricket in the cricket ACT office.
