Annapurna Das and Titas Sadhu held their nerve as East Zone clinched the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy.
The final of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy between South Zone and East Zone is nicely poised in the balance with East Zone at 30/2 in 13.2 overs needing another 154 runs with 8 wickets in hand, going into the final day’s play.
The overnight batter Uma Chetry was joined by skipper Deepti Sharma and the duo stitched a 23-run partnership for the 3rd wicket before Sahana Pawar picked up the wicket of the opening batter Uma Chetry to provide the 3rd breakthrough for South Zone. wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh joined skipper Deepti Sharma at the crease and the duo stitched a crucial 62-run partnership for the 4th wicket before the wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh was found short of her crease to provide the 4th breakthrough for South Zone.
Rizu Saha soon followed her back to the pavilion to provide the 5th breakthrough for South Zone. Monika Das joined skipper Deepti Sharma at the crease and the duo stitched another crucial 25-run partnership for the 6th wicket before Sahana Pawar came back and picked up the big wicket of the opposition skipper Deepti Sharma to provide the much-needed breakthrough for her side.
East Zone lost a couple of wickets in quick succession and found themselves in a very tricky position at 153/8 in the 52nd over of the run chase with 31 runs away from the target. Annapurna Das joined Sushree Dibyadarshini at the crease and the duo stitched a much-needed 25-run partnership for the 9th wicket, taking their side on the brink of victory before they lost the wicket of Sushree Dibyadarshini to provide the 9th breakthrough for South Zone. Skipper Minnu Mani provided a crucial breakthrough for her side.
Titas Sadhu joined Annapurna Das at the crease in the 58th over of the run chase with East Zone requiring just 6 runs to win with the last pair standing at the crease. The duo managed to hold their nerve and take East Zone over the line in the 62nd over of the innings with one wicket in hand to clinch the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy by defeating South Zone in the final. Skipper Deepti Sharma (46 off 92 balls), wicket-keeper batter Richa Ghosh (33 off 44 balls), Monika Das (22 off 55 balls), Sushree Dibyadarshini (15 off 25 balls), and Annapurna Das (12 off 28 balls) were the top performers with the bat for East Zone.
Sahana Pawar (17-4-44-3), skipper Minnu Mani (21.3-2-65-3), Sajeevan Sajana (6-1-13-1), and Arundhati Reddy (7-2-18-1) were the top performers with the ball for South Zone.
