England’s Maia Bouchier has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for March 2024, following her outstanding performance in New Zealand. Bouchier surpassed tough competition from Australian all-rounder Ash Gardner and New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr to secure the prestigious accolade.
The 25-year-old, who made her debut in 2021, recently transitioned to the top order, a move that has significantly boosted her performance. This was evident in England’s recent T20I series victory (4-1) over New Zealand, where Bouchier emerged as the Player of the Series for her exceptional batting display, accumulating 223 runs at an average of 55.75 and a strike rate of 129.65.
A standout moment came in the fourth T20I match, where Bouchier showcased her ability with a career-best score of 91 runs. Her innings, comprising 12 boundaries and two maximums, took England to a commanding total of 177 runs. Despite narrowly missing out on a century, Bouchier’s contribution played a pivotal role in securing victory for her team, establishing England’s dominance in the series.
Reflecting on her performance, Bouchier expressed her joy at the opportunity to bat at the top of the order stating, “I really enjoyed myself out there. Getting the chance at the top of the order was very special for me. It’s something I love doing.”
With her stellar performance in New Zealand, Bouchier aims to solidify her position in the team as England gears up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled later this year in Bangladesh.
