Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur alongside a few other members of the Indian men’s hockey team honoured with PCS, PPS Officer, and Deputy SP positions.

Many players tend to receive special recognition and are honored by the local state governments from their hometowns with various prestigious positions across various other sectors. The positions are offered with the intent to celebrate the achievements made by various players representing the country at the international level.

The Indian women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, alongside 9 other players from the Indian Men’s Hockey team who clinched a historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games were honored with PPS (DSP) and PCS officers position. The Punjab Chief Minister Bhagvant Singh Mann presented the appointment letters to Harpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Shamsher Singh, and Indian women’s cricket team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for the position of PPS (DSP). While, Rupinder Pal Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Hardik Singh, and Gurjant Singh were appointed for the position of PCS officer.

Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been honored for her triumphs as a skipper of the Indian team. In recent times she led the women in blue to a silver medal finish in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. She followed that up by clinching the 7th Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final in Sylhet in September-October 2022. She also led India to a semi-final in the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup in South Africa last year. The stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur guided India to a gold medal triumph in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September 2023.

Apart from these triumphs, she also led the women in blue to historic memorable victories against England and Australia in the red-ball format in December 2023. India sealed the game with the largest margin of victory in terms of runs (347 runs) against England. It was Women in Blue’s first Test victory at home against England in six attempts. They also managed to clinch their maiden victory over Australia in the red-ball format when they defeated them by 8 wickets on 24th December 2023 in a one-off Test match at the Wankhede Stadium.

As far as the Indian men’s Hockey team are concerned, they managed to bag the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 by defeating Germany 5-4 in the 3rd place play-off. It was their maiden finish on the podium after 41 years since their gold medal triumph at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. They also went on to clinch the Asian Champions Trophy and the Asian Games in 2022. They were unbeaten in both tournaments.
