India were cruising towards victory at one stage, but Bangladeshi bowlers managed to pull the match back in their hands. After captain Harmanpreet Kaur was given out by the umpire, she smashed the stumps with her bat, she was also seen gesturing to the umpire something. Harmanpreet was absolutely furious with the decision.

Harmanpreet criticized the umpires even in the post-match presentation, Saying the umpiring throughout the series was pathetic. And they will come prepared for such decisions the next time they visit Bangladesh. Due to this, Harmanpreet Kaur is likely to receive 4 demerit points for her behaviour. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the match officials suggested that she should get 3 demerit points for equipment damage (smashing the stumps), and 1 demerit point for criticizing the match officials in public.

The decision is yet to be taken by ICC, who will have the final say on this topic. The BCCI is reportedly in talks with ICC regarding the matter.

Whenever a player receives 4 or more demerit points in the span of 24 months, it automatically converts into suspension points. If the demerit points are between 4-7, then the player will be suspended for 1 test match, 2 ODI’s, or 2 T20I’s whichever comes first in the schedule of the player.

It is not the first time Harmanpreet has received demerit points, with the last time being during her iconic knock of 171, where she verbally abused teammate Deepti Sharma, and also threw her helmet on the ground while celebrating her hundred. The duo got involved in a mix-up that could have potentially resulted in Harmanpreet being dismissed.

Veda Krishnamurthy is another Indian player who has been found guilty twice by the ICC. ICC released a list of 29 women players who have been found guilty of breaching the code of conduct since 2016. ICC will most probably release an official statement soon regarding this matter.
