Business Today, on the 29th of March, held its annual ‘Most Powerful Women in the Business’ event, and gracing the show were Indian cricketers, Jhulan Goswami, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Harleen Deol. Below are a few top quotes from the Business Today event.
Former Indian pacer, Jhulan Goswami, who recently mentored and coached Mumbai Indians, the team led by Harmanpreet Kaur to the inaugural championship win in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) spoke highly about the league and stated, “We should cherish that we have a platform like this today.”
Quoting Jhulan, “WPL will change the perception of women’s cricket. Our cricketers are sharing the dressing room with all quality cricketers from the world, and this will only benefit Indian cricket. We should cherish that we have a platform like this today.
“We would always discuss that WPL should happen, and we should get more money, more facilities. But this generation didn’t think that WPL would happen so soon in their career. Earlier, women’s cricket had minimum visibility. But that mindset is changing slowly. People have started enjoying and believing in women’s cricket now.”

Jemimah Rodrigues, who featured for the runners-up Delhi Capitals in the inaugural WPL edition acknowledged the hunger and grit of former players who did it all “without the fame, the money, and the social media.” Quoting Jemimah, “The previous generation did it without the fame, the money, and the social media. We are enjoying the fruits of labour of the Jhulan Goswamis and the Mithali Rajs.”
Jemimah speaking on the WPL Final where she was on the losing end against her national team skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur said, “I was sad that we lost (to Mumbai Indians), but to see Harry Di (Harmanpreet Kaur) lift the trophy was a victory for women’s cricket in India.”
India and Australia of late have shared a very strong cricketing rivalry that’s often seen Australia get over the line in thrillers which leaves Harmanpreet Kaur just short. Adding to Harmanpreet Kaur lifting the WPL trophy, Jhulan Goswami feels the win will give her a lot of confidence and that she can beat Meg Lanning’s team.
Quoting Jhulan Goswami, “Harman (Harmanpreet Kaur) was trying to avoid all the talk about Meg Lanning’s team beating her team (leading up to the final). The WPL win will give her a lot of confidence; it has shown that she can beat Meg Lanning’s team too.
