SWOT Analysis Pakistan Squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023?

Strengths of the Pakistan squad selected for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

  • Calm and composed Bismah Maroof: Bismah Maroof has been an integral part of the Pakistani squad since 2009 and is the leading run-getter; she often goes unnoticed for her contributions. Although her captaincy has sometimes come under the scanner, no one can take away her brilliant batting performances.

  • Presence of Nida Dar: A classy all-rounder, Nida Dar is an asset for any team she features in. Decked as one the all-time leading wicket-takers for Pakistan, she has contributed whenever she has played and will look to make a mark in this World Cup.

  • Strong batting with Sidra Ameen: The pocket-size dynamite known for her dynamic strokeplay and prolific batting, her experience for the team makes her one-of-a-kind, and memorable performances at the ODI World Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games is what makes her relevant for the team.

Weaknesses of the Pakistan squad selected for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

  • The absence of Diana Baig: The pace bowling sensation from Pakistan, who breathes pace and exudes confidence in equal measure, was, unfortunately, injured in the Australia series as an index finger injury. Pakistan will miss her services.

  • Brittle batting: The batting for Pakistan has been a massive concern as, without Sidra Ameen, Nida Dar and Bismah Maroof, the rest of the batting does not inspire confidence.

  • Inexperienced bowling: Sidra Nawaz, Tuba Hassan, Nashra Sundhu, and Javeria Wadood are certainly talented but still form quite the inexperienced bowling line-up for Pakistan. They can challenge some of the tougher batting sides but will have to be precise with their efficient line and lengths.

Opportunities for the Pakistan squad selected for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

  • Sadaf Shamas’ time to shine: Added to the squad as a replacement for Diana Baig, she was selected in the squad as an option to beef up the batting order. Making her way ahead of Kainat Imtiaz and Ghulam Fatima, the team management certainly has a lot of faith in her abilities, which is a welcome sign.

  • Tuba Hassan and Sadia Iqbal can make a statement: Tuba Hassan has been a rising star for Pakistan since impressing in the domestic circuit and age-group cricket, and her appearances on the international stage have also been nothing short of impressive. Sadia Iqbal, on the other hand, is a player to watch out for as she made a comeback for a team after a significant period of time and will look to impress.

Threats for the Pakistan squad selected for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023

  • Poor string of performances in ICC events: Pakistan has the dubious distinction of not going past the group stages in the T20 World Cup in any edition so far. Considering their meteoric rise in recent times and the unbelievable win against India in the Asia Cup, and the win versus West Indies in the ODI World Cup, they will be coming in with unbridled positivity and confidence.
