U19 Indian Girls register comprehensive victory over U19 West Indies and Sri Lanka sides

With the inaugural edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup just around the corner, the Broad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with a couple of teams, and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) with a team each have come forward to contest in a Quadrangular Series in India as part of their lead-up to the mega ICC event.

The first couple of games of the Quadrangular Series were played today and the same is briefed below.

Match 1 : U19 Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series

West Indies – 85/7 (20.0)
India A – 89/0 (12.4)

West Indies put in to bat first had opener, Shunelle Sawh anchor the innings and top score for the side with her 41(63), while Djenaba Joseph at 3, chipped in with 15(20) and Jannillea Glasgow in the lower middle order, chipped in with 10(8) in the side finishing on 85/7 at the and of 20 overs. India A with the ball had Sonam Yadav register figures of 3/9 (4), while Jintimani Kalita, Archana Devi and Sonia Mendhiya bagged a wicket each.

India A in reply had opener, Roshni Kiran struggle in the middle, but her opening partner and skipper, Shweta Sehrawat toyed with the West Indies attack during her unbeaten 28-ball-47 knock. The pair comfortably in 12.4 overs of play won the game for their side and Roshini too remained unbeaten on 19*(49) in sealing a 10-wicket win.

Result : India A won by 10 wickets

Match 2 : U19 Women’s T20 Quadrangular Series

India B – 125/5 (20.0)
Sri Lanka – 113/9 (20.0)

India B put in to bat first, lost opener, Bristi Maji early on 4(11) and Ishwari Savkar then alongside G Trisha stitched a 72-run stand. With the sides score on 83 at the end of the 14th over, the partnership saw curtains with Trisha walking back on 49(38). While wickets then continued to fall in regular intervals as Ishwari Savkar on 30(48), Mithila Vinod on 2(4) and Mannat Kashyap on 10(5) departed, it was skipper, Niki Prasad’s 13-ball-22 that pushed India B’s score to 125 at the end of 20.

Sri Lanka in reply had both its openers depart after having starts as skipper, Vishmi Gunarathne on 11(11) and Sumudu Nisansala on 12(16) was run out. Middle-order batters, Sanjana Kavindi with 14(27), Rashmi Nethranjali with 20(18) and Manudi Nanayakkara with 33(30) chipped in with handy contributions, but couldn’t close the game out for their side. With tailenders departing on early single-digit scores, India B with late crucial wickets gained momentum and successfully defended their total by 12 runs which saw Mannat Kashyap bag 4/18 (4) and Niki Prasad bag figures of 1/20 (4).

Result: India B won by 12 runs
