On Thursday, 27th October 2022, cricket fans were greeted with a surprise when BCCI Secretary Jay Shah tweeted that Indian women cricketers will now be paid equal match fees as compared to their male counterparts.
This move by BCCI was lauded by several fans on Twitter. Here’s what everyone had to say:
I’m pleased to announce @BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing pay equity policy for our contracted @BCCIWomen cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be same as we move into a new era of gender equality in 🇮🇳 Cricket. pic.twitter.com/xJLn1hCAtl

This is absolutely fantastic news.
I hope it encourages more girls (and their parents) to consider sports as a viable career. We need more female involvement in Indian sports, and this is a huge step forward.
Thank you @BCCI https://t.co/aimNo7AXkY— Taniyaa Sapna Bhatia (@IamTaniyaBhatia) October 27, 2022

Whoa!! This is a huge and extraordinary announcement.
Bravo! 👏🏽
It shall have cascading ramifications in other sports as well as hopefully create a ripple effect on corporate India where pay disparity between men and women is an open secret. https://t.co/RU8E2qR9um— Neelesh Misra (@neeleshmisra) October 27, 2022
