Cricket in India isn’t just a sport, it always has been more and the status of a religion that cricket often is equaled to, simply feels to be the only right match. If not politics, it’s cricket that gets the Indians going and this time around it’s a video of a young girl from Ladakh that’s hit the viral button on social media.
Twitterati are in absolute awe having watched the 45-second clip that was shared by the Directorate of School Education (DSE), Ladakh which features sixth grader, Maqsooma, playing a few brilliant strokes and is also seen sprinting between the wickets.
The Tweet read, “My father at home and my teacher at school encourage me to play cricket. I’ll put all my efforts to play like @imVkohli Maqsooma student class 6th #HSKaksar”
Maqsooma in the same clip is heard sharing, “I have been playing since childhood and my father is still teaching me. I am still learning how to play especially Helicopter Shot. After taking the second run, we get tired and do not feel like running for another. My favorite cricketer is Virat Kohli and I want to be like him.”
Loads and loads of best wishes have been pouring in for Maqsooma and a few very special ones as well starting with Mithali Raj, who on the Tweet, quoted, “Hoping all her dreams get wings ! Some of her onside shots are superb . Amazing to see little girls taking up cricket in every part of our amazing country 🇮🇳”
Harmanpreet Kaur reacted to the clip with a “Wow” and the tweet didn’t fail to cross shores as a journalist from Pakistan, Hussain Afzal quoted, “@imVkohli has inspired so many around the world to become cricketers. Undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketers of this generation.”
