Jhulan Goswami becomes first female bowler to bowl 10,000 Deliveries in ODI Cricket

Jhulan Goswami, an icon of the game when took the field for her farewell match against England at Lord’s went on to set a record more as she became the first women cricketer to bowl 10,000 deliveries in the history of ODI cricket and what better finish could have she asked for than setting the milestone.

India in the 3-match ODI series registered wins at Hove and Canterbury before the side took the field for their final game of the series at Lord’s with a 2-0 series lead. The game had the English bowl India out for a total of 169 that they got to with fifties from blades of Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma. England in reply suffered a middle order collapse, but a late stitch kept England’s hopes alive, but the controversial dismissal of Charlie Dean on 47, proved enough for India to seal the series 3-0.

Jhulan Goswami playing her final international game was dismissed on a first-ball duck, but with the ball in hand meant business. She in her 10-overs, bowled 3 maidens, conceded only 30 runs and bagged a couple of wickets in Alice Capsey dismissing her early on 5(8) and bowled Kate Cross on 10(15) to provide India with a crucial late breakthrough.

Jhulan Goswami ahead of her final game thanked everyone involved in the journey. Quoting, “I’d like to thank the BCCI, my friends, my family, my coaches, teammates, captains. Everyone, thanks for this opportunity, this is a very special moment. I have to (keep emotions in check), I can’t come with all those emotions onto the cricket field. As a ruthless character, I have to come out and play hard cricket and give my best (to go out on a high at Lord’s).”

Jhulan has picked up 44 wickets in 12 Test matches (21 innings) with best figures of 5/25 in an innings and 10/78 in a match and in the shortest format, she’s played 68 T20I’s which see her with 56 wickets and the best figures of 5/11.
