There is a lot of controversy surrounding the current selections of squads. One of those is the squad for the Commonwealth Games qualifier 2022. Jahanara Alam has been snapped from the national squad for the Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022 which was to be held in Malaysia.
This has led to her submitting a letter to the BCB accusing the selector Manjurul Islam of mismanagement and bias. A BCB official has said that she has been dropped due to discipline issues where she misbehaved with the team management during the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. The BCB officials have also said that she was responsible for a division of different groups within the team and for not supporting the decision of the board on appointing Nigar Sultana Joty as the Skipper. The officials say that she has been dropped to make a point however still kept on the standby squad as she is still an essential part of the team.
In accordance with the letter submitted by her the BCB Chief Executive, Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. “Yes, we have received a letter from her (Jahanara) and will look into it and we will take the required steps after taking everything into consideration. When a cricketer of Jahanara’s stature tells us anything naturally it will be taken seriously and we will try to find out the truth about her observation”
This decision has been questioned heavily as Alam is an essential part of the squad for over a decade and has been instrumental for the team in the shortest format of the game. She is the 4th highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in T20s with 38 wickets in 40 matches. Her letter accusing the official of Bias and mismanagement is also a serious concern that would want to be resolved before the team plays its first match on January 18th. The winner of this qualifier gets to compete in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
The Bangladesh squad for the Commonwealth qualifier is Nigar Sultana Joty (Captain), Rumana Ahmed, Salma Khatun, Fargana Hoque Pinky, Shamima Sultana, Fahima Khatun, Ritu Moni, Murshida Khatun, Nahida Akter, Sharmin Akter Supta, Lata Mondol, Sobhana Mostary, Fariha Islam Trisna, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Suraiya Azmim
