The ICC announced the results of the Player of the Month Award for July today. The West Indies Captain Stafanie Taylor took home the award receiving the majority of the votes. Taylor displayed outstanding performance in July at the limited-overs series against the Pakistan Women’s squad.
She was nominated for this award alongside teammate Hayley Matthews and Fatima Sana of Pakistan. However, her impressive showcase in July helped Taylor claim most of the votes. Stafanie starred throughout the series against Pakistan, scoring 175 runs with a strike rate of 79.18. She also picked three wickets in the first ODI and four wickets in the final T20I of the series. In addition to this, Taylor also bagged the top seat in the ICC Women’s ODI Rankings for batters and all-rounders earlier in July.
ICC Voting Academy member and former fast bowler Ian Bishop stated, “Runs and wickets in addition to her leadership helped her team to defeat Pakistan convincingly. She was good in every department.”
On winning the award, Stafanie told ICC, “This is a bit surprising to me, winning the ICC Player of the Month award for July, but I’m happy. It shows that the hard work you put in, will pay off and it did, against Pakistan, to help us win that series. We played well in both formats.”
“I’m over in England now playing in The Hundred, which is a different kind of competition, played at a faster pace. But I’m still working hard. We’re also looking forward to the series against South Africa at home, and we will be looking to win that as well. I want to thank the fans for all their support, as it is always appreciated.”
