Kia Summer Smash – taking Women’s Cricket to new heights

With ever increasing popularity, media focus and commercial interest in Women’s cricket, Kia Motors, UK, has been the official partner of England Women’s cricket team since 2014 and title sponsor of Kia Super League since 2016.

Taking its commitment to women’s sport to a next level, the company partnered with The Cricketer magazine and launched the Kia Summer Smash (KSS), a nationwide competition for non-professional female cricket teams and players of all ages. It is being played in an exciting T10 format and four regional finalists will compete on the Kia finals day in September. Nine teams participated in the Western region and Plympton CC emerged victorious, beating Newport in the regional final.

The KSS final will take place at the Kia Oval, home of Surrey County Cricket Club, on Saturday 20 September and the winners will be crowned the inaugural Kia Summer Smash champions.

Expressing her views on the initiative, England Women’s captain, Heather Knight said, “I wish this had been available when I was younger. I played schools cricket but it was mixed and it was sometimes daunting for a young girl to play with boys. I would have loved the chance to meet other girls who wanted to play cricket and have fun like this.”
