Doing umpiring was a little bit of accidental – says Ireland’s wicket-keeper Mary Waldron

Ireland’s best wicket-keeper, having played more than 100 matches, Mary Waldron was recently awarded a semi-professional cricket contract by Cricket Ireland and is one among the only eight women who have been appointed to the ICC’s development panel of umpires.

The player expressed her happiness on receiving the contract and said that now she doesn’t have to go to work after training. Waldron spends half of the year in playing and umpiring in Australia but quotes that umpiring was started accidently for her during one summer season she did a basic umpiring course and went on to train as a proper umpire in the next summer season and thus the umpiring journey started. Now being on development panel of umpires, I would get access to online support system, get reports and get herself accessed for making her way to get opportunities of umpiring in big games.
