Irish international player Lucy O’Reilly to take a break from game

Cricket Ireland confirmed that Ireland’s international player Lucy O’Reilly has requested to take a voluntary break from international duties during 2019 season. O’Reilly became the youngest Irish international cricketer on debut in 2013.

Citing her reason for seeking a break, she said, “Following the T20 World Cup in November I’ve increasingly come to the decision that I would like some time away from the game. I’ve been playing and training within the international environment for the last six years and I now feel it is time to step aside for a while. I’ll play some Super 3s matches in early summer and then will be doing some independent travel.”

Aaron Hamilton, Head Coach of the Ireland Women’s international squad, said:

“Lucy has become a leading star in our senior women’s side since she made her debut six years ago. She has very deservedly received plaudits from across the cricket world for her obvious talent and performances over that time, most recently at the T20 World Cup.”

“While we would obviously prefer to have Lucy’s top-class talents within our ranks this season, we appreciate and fully support Lucy in taking some time for herself away from the rigours of training for and playing international cricket. We wish her well and look forward to the day she will once again step out on the field for Ireland.”
