India Blue wins Women’s U23 one-day Challenger Trophy

Women’s Under 23 One Day Challenger Trophy (2018-19) concluded recently on 24th April with India Blue winning the title after defeating India Green by five wickets in the final.

India Green’s skipper Sushree Dibyadarshini won the toss and chose to bat first. Openers Priya Punia and YH Bhatia got good starts but could not convert them into useful innings as both got out in successive overs just after the batting powerplay of first 10 overs. Rest of the top order and middle order played small cameos but were unable to accelerate the run rate as the entire team was bowled out for 117 in 44 overs. For India Blue, captain DP Vaidya, Tanuja Kanwer, C Prathyusha and Tanusree Sarkar took two wicket each to restrict the opponents to a below par score.

Chasing a low total, India Blue lost skipper in 3rd over itself but opener Shafali Verma’s 40-runs innings (off just 32 balls) alongwith small but vital contributions of wicket-keeper batter Nuzhat Parween and Tanusree Sarkar ensured an easy win for the team as they reached the target in just 28.4 overs.
