Once again, the youngster 16-year old Shafali Verma has shown the world that skills matter more than the age, she has been striking the ball out of the park since the start of this tournament and that too with consistency, she has a strike rate which anyone would imagine.
Shafali’s flamboyant batting helped India to build decent innings against Bangladesh and eventually India won their 2nd consecutive match in the world cup. Shafali’s ability to maximize the usage of runs in Powerplay has been the highlight of India’s batting display in the ICC contest.
In the match against Bangladesh Shafali scored 39 runs in 17 balls including four sixes where India piled up 142 runs with a loss of 6 wickets and then the bowlers of the side lead the Indian team to a victory by 18 runs.
Speaking of the youngster, Shikha stated that Shafali is playing an amazing cricket. “We have not asked her (Verma) to change anything. She has been given free license to play her fearless brand of cricket,” Pandey said.
“She is amazing. At 16, I hadn’t even started training to become a cricketer. I’m very pleased to have such young fearless players in our team. It’s amazing to see them doing what they did for us,” Pandey added.
The fast-bowler further reiterated that they knew they had put up a good total on board only to back themselves in Perth.
“There’s no baggage, that’s the biggest thing, and they express themselves so well in the team.”
“We thought we had a great score on the board to defend today because we believe in our bowling department. We knew it would be a tough target for them to reach,” Pandey maintained.
In the 3rd match for India against the White Ferns, India clinched victory in a last-over thriller while defending a low par total of 133 runs. Shafali Verma was doing her routine while smashing runs and made 46 runs off 34 balls which had 3 sky shots, although the middle Order of India collapsed and the bowlers did a fine job to defend the total and lead India to semi-finals and Women in Blue became the first side to enter the semi-finals with their third consecutive victory.
