Georgia Redmayne Hits Unbeaten 125 to help Queensland Fire Outclass Tasmania Tigers

Queensland Fire produced a commanding all-round performance to register a comprehensive 60-run victory over Tasmania Tigers in the 15th match of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) 2025–26 at Hobart on January 6, with skipper Georgia Redmayne headlining the contest through a sublime unbeaten century that anchored the innings from start to finish.

After opting to bat first, Queensland’s innings began on a steady note as Georgia Redmayne and Mikayla Wrigley laid the foundation with a composed opening partnership. The pair added 84 runs for the first wicket, soaking up early pressure and ensuring stability against Tasmania’s new-ball attack. Wrigley played the supporting role with a patient 35 off 63 balls, striking four boundaries, before being dismissed at 18.1 overs, caught in the deep off Maisy Gibson, giving Tasmania their first breakthrough at 84/1.

Redmayne, however, remained unflustered and found another reliable partner in Lauren Winfield-Hill, who injected momentum with a brisk 18 off 18 balls. Their stand carried Queensland past the 120-run mark before Winfield-Hill fell at 24.2 overs, caught by Ruth Johnston off Hayley Silver-Holmes, with the score reading 122/2.

The middle overs were expertly managed through a fluent partnership between Redmayne and Lucinda Bourke, who struck 30 off 33 deliveries, peppered with four boundaries. The duo stitched together a crucial 66-run stand, pushing Queensland firmly into a position of control before Bourke departed at 35.4 overs (188/3), caught off Lauren Smith.

Queensland continued to build without panic as Sianna Ginger (15 off 21) and Annie O’Neil (15 off 12) chipped in with handy cameos, maintaining the run flow through smart strike rotation. Redmayne accelerated seamlessly in the final phase, finding support from the lower order as wickets fell late. Ruby Strange’s lively 22 off 14 balls, including three fours and a six, provided the finishing touches.

Queensland eventually closed their innings at 287/8 in 50 overs, with Redmayne carrying her bat for a magnificent 125 off 134 balls, laced with 12 fours, earning her the Player of the Match award. For Tasmania, the bowling effort was led by Nicola Hancock, who claimed impressive figures of 4/42 from 10 overs, while Grace Parsons (3/52) and Ruby Strange (1/27) also made valuable contributions despite the pressure of defending a large total.

In reply, Tasmania’s chase never truly settled. Early strikes from Grace Parsons and Sianna Ginger dented the top order as Ruth Johnston fell for 0 (0.5 ov) and skipper Rachel Trenaman managed just 18 off 31 balls, leaving Tasmania reeling at 41/2. Emma Manix-Geeves (21 off 37) and Naomi Stalenberg (23 off 45) attempted to rebuild, but regular wickets prevented sustained momentum.

The most significant resistance came from Hayley Silver-Holmes, who played a fighting knock of 66 off 68 balls, striking eight boundaries in a valiant effort to keep Tasmania alive. She found brief support from Lauren Smith, whose aggressive 55 off 51 balls lifted hopes through a counter-attacking stand, but once both departed at 40.3 and 44.2 overs respectively, the chase fizzled out.

Queensland’s bowling unit was disciplined and relentless. Nicola Hancock starred with the ball, returning 4 wickets, while Grace Parsons (3/52) and Sianna Ginger (2/41) applied constant pressure. Tight spells from Bonnie Berry (0/31) and Ruby Strange (1/27) ensured Tasmania were bowled out for 227 in 44.2 overs, falling well short of the target.
