As West Indies Women’s team prepares to tour South Africa for the first bilateral series of 2022, Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Friday announced a 23 players squad for a medical and fitness camp ahead of the selection of the final 18 who would be traveling to Johannesburg, South Africa.
The camp is scheduled to be held in Barbados starting Tomorrow till January 14. Some of the key selections include the return of renowned leg-spinner Afy Fletcher from Grenada after year-long maternity leave, and the presence of young Zaida James from St. Lucia and Jannillea Glasgow from St. Vincent and the Grenadines both of whom have been a part of West India A last year.
Commenting on the two teenagers, CWI Lead Selector for Women’s cricket, Anne Browne-John said,
“What is very promising for us at CWI is the inclusion of teenagers Jannillea Glasgow and Zaida James. They’ve been a part of the senior team camps before and also played in the first-ever West Indies Women’s A-Team home series against Pakistan Women last year. Their inclusion is a continued step in the developmental pathways we have established to grow women’s cricket in the region,”
On the other hand, bowlers Shabika Gajnabi and Shawnisha Hector and batter Britney Cooper have been ruled out by CWI Medical Panel stating medical reasons.
Among others, Stafanie Taylor, Chinelle Henry, Chedean Nation, and Rashada Williams are the four Jamaicans in the squad, Shemaine Campbelle along with Sheneta Grimmond, Mandy Mangru, Cherry Ann Fraser and Kaysia Schultz are the five from Guyana. The Trinidadians are Reniece Boyce, Anisa Mohammed, Karishma Ramharack while joining James from St. Lucia is Qiana Joseph and those from Barbados where the camp is to take place are Hayley Matthews, Aaliyah Alleyne, Shamilia Connell, Deandra Dottin, Kycia Knight, Kyshona Knight, and Shakera Selman
West Indies tours South Africa Four ODIs which will start with a Warm-Up game on January 25 with the series ending on February 6 as per the revised schedule announced by Cricket South Africa last Wednesday.
