In the ongoing series between India and West Indies, the carnival now moves into the ODI leg after a thrilling T20I series, which saw hosts India clinch the three-match T20I series 2-1 in the series decider. The focus now heads toward the ODI series which will begin on December 22 with all three matches to be played at Reliance Stadium in Vadodara.
India put up a spectacular show in the T20I leg against Windies but they will also aim to bounce back from their recent ODI setback – a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of Australia. Hence, they would look to change things around in the upcoming ODI series.
Meanwhile, Hayley Matthews and her side had shown grit and determination in the T20I series against India and will be eager to replicate that in the ODI series. For the West Indies, this series presents an opportunity to challenge a formidable Indian side on their home turf and secure favorable outcomes.
The previous instance where both sides faced each other in the 50-over format was during the 2022 World Cup where India registered a comprehensive 155-run victory after putting up 317 on the board following Mandhana and Harmanpreet’s century.
It was in 2019, that India and the Windies played a bilateral series in the ODI format during India’s tour to the Caribbean, which saw the visitors register a 2-1 series win.
The upcoming ODI series is part of the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship. India is currently placed third in the table having received the qualification as hosts, while the Windies will be playing the qualifiers for the 2025 World Cup, but the series stands as preparation for both sides.
Head-to-head in the ODI format, India has a supreme record over the Windies with 21 wins out of 26 games while the Windies have won five.
