The 3rd edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) has come to an end. We witnessed multiple low-scoring thrillers throughout the course of the tournament. Many new upcoming talents emerged as the standout performers for their respective franchises.
Barbados Royals led by skipper Hayley Matthews have successfully managed to defend their WCPL crown with a four-wicket victory against the Trinbago Knight Riders led by skipper Deandra Dottin in an edge-of-the-seat, low-scoring thriller in the final.
Guyana Amazon Warriors journey in the tournament:
The Guyana Amazon Warriors led by skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill had a disappointing campaign in the 3rd edition of the tournament after finishing as the runners-up of the tournament in the year 2023. They finished at the bottom of the points table with two points from four games. Their only victory in the tournament came against the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Erin Burns was the highest run-scorer for her side and of the tournament with 172 runs at a strike rate of 123.74 and an impressive average of 57.33 in four innings with the bat. Shabnim Ismail is the leading wicket-taker for her side and the 2nd highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 9 wickets to her name, and an impressive economy of 4.25 in four innings. Her tally of runs includes one four-wicket haul.
Trinbago Knight Riders journey in the tournament:
Trinbago Knight Riders led by skipper Deandra Dottin had a decent campaign in the 3rd edition of the WCPL. They had a poor start to their campaign as they lost their first couple of games. However, they bounced back with two wins on the bounce to finish 2nd on the points table. As a result of their top-two finish, they booked their spot for their 2nd WCPL final. They were up against Barbados Royals led by skipper Hayley Matthews in the final.
Skipper Deandra Dottin is currently the leading run-scorer for her side and the 4th highest run-scorer of the tournament with 113 runs at a strike rate of 111.88 in four innings. Her tally of runs includes one half-century. Jess Jonassen is currently the leading wicket-taker for her side with 3 wickets in four innings with the ball.
Barbados Royals journey in the tournament:
Barbados Royals led by skipper Hayley Matthews had an impressive campaign in the 3rd edition of the tournament. They finished at the top of the points table with six points from four games in the league stages. Their only defeat came against the Trinbago Knight Riders (by four wickets) in the last league game of the season.
Skipper Hayley Matthews is the leading run-scorer for her side with 147 runs at a strike rate of 102.08 and a sensational average of 67 in four innings. Her tally of runs includes a couple of half-centuries. Skipper Hayley Matthews is also the leading wicket-taker for her side and for the tournament with 11 wickets in four innings. Her tally of wickets includes one four-wicket haul. The Hayley Matthews-led side into their 3rd straight final.
They successfully managed to defend their WCPL crown to add the 2nd title to their trophy cabinet with a four-wicket win against the Trinbago Knight Riders in the final.
