Smriti Mandhana had a brilliant day in the field both with the bat scoring 41 off 29 balls and also contributed with an extraordinary catch. Chasing a total of 170, Scorchers were on the backfoot by the end of 14 overs, having lost six wickets for 81 runs. Amanda-Jade Wellington was handed over to bowl the fifteenth over and Carly Leeson was facing the first ball of that over, as Lesson stepped out to play a lofted shot over long off which was inside the circle to a full-length delivery.

Leeson’s shot didn’t have the required elevation which saw the ball in the air for a while just beating the circle. Smriti Mandhana who was at the mid-off ran backwards with eyes on the ball and grabbed to complete a magnificent catch. In an awkward stance, Mandhana completed the remarkable catch.

The Strikers restricted the Perth Scorchers to a score of 139 to win the match by 30 runs. It was the third win of the season for the defending champions and the second consecutive.

The effort was outstanding, but Indian fans couldn’t help but recall Travis Head’s similar catch on November 19 last year, a moment that marked India’s World Cup loss to Head’s brilliance.
