Melbourne Renegades led by skipper Sophie Molineux were up against Sydney Sixers led by skipper Ellyse Perry in the 2nd match on the opening day of the landmark 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
Sydney Sixers skipper Ellyse Perry won the toss and inserted the Melbourne Renegades to bat first. The Renegades posted a total of 178/8 in their quota of 20 overs. Chasing a target of 179, the Sydney Sixers openers, Hollie Armitage and skipper Ellyse Perry got their side off to a flying start with a 79-run opening partnership, scoring at around 11 runs an over.

Skipper Ellyse Perry led from the front by smashing her career’s fastest half-century off just 23 balls, completing her half-century by smashing Georgia Wareham for a boundary on the 4th ball of the 9th over. Her previous best was off 26 balls while representing Birmingham Phoenix in the Women’s Hundred. Georgia Wareham returned and picked up the wicket of Ellyse Perry (81 off 38 balls) to provide the much-needed 2nd breakthrough for the Melbourne Renegades. She inflicted the damage on the opposition before getting dismissed.
