Match 24: 75 Runs from Grace Harris help Heat overpower Hurricanes in Launceston

The 24th match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Saturday.

1st innings Brisbane Heat 170-6 in 20 overs

Batting first, Brisbane Heat posted a daunting total of 170-6 in 20 overs. The opening pair of Grace Harris (75) and Georgia Redmayne stitched a 140-run partnership in 15.1 overs. Harris smashed six boundaries and two sixes in her 51-ball knock, while Redmayne plundered nine boundaries in her innings of 64 (50). Georgia Voll scored a brisk 9-ball 12, hitting one six. For Hobart Hurricanes, Ruth Johnston was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 2-30 in her four overs. Molly Strano accounted for one dismissal. There were three run outs in Brisbane Heat’s batting innings.

2nd innings Hobart Hurricanes 156-9 in 20 overs

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes managed to score 156-9 in 20 overs, falling shy of just 14 runs. After losing the opening pair of Rachael Priest (9) and Ruth Johnston (3) cheaply, Mignon du Preez (73) consolidated the innings as she top-scored for her team. During her 49-ball knock, the South African all-rounder slammed nine boundaries and a six. Nicola Carey was the other major contributor with the bat as she mustered 31 runs off 26 balls, including three boundaries. For Brisbane Heat, it was their skipper Jess Jonassen, who was the top performer with the ball as the left arm spinner accounted for 3-25 in her four overs. Opening bowler Nicola Hancock struck with 3-33 in her four, while Courtney Grace Sippel and Anne Bosch picked up two and one wickets respectively.

Brisbane Heat’s Grace Harris won the player of the match for her scintillating batting performance of 75 runs off 51 balls.
