The 20th match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars at the Aurora Stadium in Launceston on Wednesday.

Batting first, Melbourne Stars put up a fighting score of 144-4 in 20 overs. The opening pair of Ellyse Villani and Annabel Sutherland (12) put together 48 runs for the first wicket in 7.5 overs. Villani (35) smashed half a dozen boundaries during her innings. After losing their captain Meg Lanning (3) cheaply, Maia Bouchier (42) and Kimberley Garth came together to score 83 runs for the fourth wicket. Garth top scored with an unbeaten 44 off just 29 balls, hitting six boundaries. For Hobart Hurricanes, it was Tayla Vlaeminck, who was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 3-27 in her four overs.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes chased down the target in 19.2 overs, winning the match by six wickets. South African all-rounder Mignon du Preez led the run chase as she plundered 62 off just 45 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes. Opening bat Rachael Priest (23) and middle order pair of Nicolay Carey (24) and Richa Ghosh (24 not out) helped in the successful run chase. For Melbourne Stars, Kimberley Garth, Annabel Sutherland, and Sophie Day struck with one wicket each.
