The fifth match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday. Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to bowl first.

1st innings Perth Scorchers 137-7 in 20 overs
Batting first, Perth Scorchers posted a competitive total of 137-7 in 20 overs. Opening bat Beth Mooney top scored with 40 runs off 37 balls. The southpaw smashed three boundaries and a six in her innings. For Brisbane Heat, captain Jess Jonassen wrecked havoc as she picked up 3-16 in her four overs. India’s leg spinner Poonam Yadav also chipped in with a couple of wickets, including that of Beth Mooney and Heather Graham.
2nd innings Brisbane Heat 137-9 in 20 overs
In reply, Brisbane Heat also scored 137 at the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. Opening bat Grace Harris was the top contributor with the bat. The right-hand bat scored a quickfire 41 off just 27 balls, hitting four boundaries and two sixes. For Perth Scorchers, Lily Mills was the pick of the bowlers, as she scalped 3-28 in her four overs. Leg spinner Alana King accounted for two dismissals, including the wickets of Georgia Voll and Laura Kimmince.
Super over
Since both the teams scored 137, the match went into a super over. Batting first, Brisbane Heat scored 12 and set a target of 13 runs for Perth Scorchers to get in one over. Jess Jonassen could not defend the target as Sophie Devine and Beth Mooney chased down the score in four balls.
