The Nigerian under-19 women booked their spot for their maiden appearance in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia, later this month courtesy of a washed-out encounter against Zimbabwe led by skipper Kelis Ndhlovu in the final of the Women’s Under-19 World Cup Africa Qualifiers.
As per the playing conditions in the tournament which stated that, in the case of a wash-out in the knockout stages of the tournament, the team with more points in the league stages of the tournament, will progress to the next stage. Nigeria finished at the top of the table in Group B with a flawless record in the league stages of the tournament which gave them 6 points from 3 games. Zimbabwe on the other hand, who eventually ended as the runners-up of the tournament finished 2nd in Group B with 4 points from 3 games including one defeat in the league stages, which eventually cost them a spot in the 2nd edition of the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup 2025.
The young brigade of the Nigerian women’s team led by skipper Lucky Piety will next be involved in the 2nd edition of the ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup 2025. The tournament will be hosted by Malaysia from 18th January 2025 to 2nd February 2025. Nigeria has announced the squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s Under-19 World Cup 2025.

The squad is filled with a fair amount of international exposure with as many as 8 players (minimum) namely, skipper Lucky Piety, Adeshola Adekunle, Peculiar Agboya, Anointed Akhigbe, Christabel Chukwuonye, Victory Igbinedion, Lilian Ude, and Usen Peace already a part of the senior Nigerian women’s team.
Lucky Piety-led side will kickstart their campaign at the Under-19 World Cup in the league stages of the tournament against Samoa in the 3rd match of the opening day of the tournament on 18th January 2025 (Saturday) from 8 AM IST.
A total of 16 teams along with the hosts Malaysia will be divided into four groups A, B, C, and D. The top three teams will progress to the Super 6 stages of the tournament and then the top two teams from each group will be up against each other in the semi-finals.
