United States of America (USA) Cricket has announced its women’s Under-19 squad ahead of the second edition of the International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
The upcoming U19 Women’s World Cup will be held from January 13 to February 2 in Malaysia, and marks USA’s second consecutive appearance in the marquee event as they qualified for the event through regional qualifications.
USA’s 15-player squad will be led by Anika Kolan and Aditiba Chudasama will serve as her deputy for the 2025 U19 Women’s World Cup. The duo was also part of the USA squad during the first edition of the tournament in 2023.
Amer Afzaluddin, the women’s selection panel chair expressed his thoughts on the squad and reflected on strategic planning and effort behind the selection of the squad. Amer pointed out the careful evaluation process and emphasized fitness, skill development, and adaptability which are vital at the international level, and also focused on holistic preparation as the squad’s composition is likely to contribute through competitive performances.
Amer Afzaluddin stated,” We are excited to announce the selection of our U19 squad for the upcoming World Cup. After careful consideration and extensive evaluation of players’ performances, fitness, and skills in the recent camp, prior tours, and National tournaments, we believe we have a talented group that combines youth and experience. We are confident in their abilities and look forward to seeing them showcase their skills.”
On a preparatory note, the team toured the Caribbean for a five-match T20I series in July 2024 where they secured two wins against West Indies Under-19.
The squad comprises several players who have been part of the senior team with the likes of Disha Dhingra, Isani Vaghela, Chetna Reddy Pagydyala, Ritu Singh, Suhani Thadani, and Saanvi Immadi who have made their international debut at the senior level.
The squad will initially travel to South Africa on January 3rd for a training camp and warm-up fixtures against the Proteas women U19, before they head to Malaysia for the marquee event.
They will face New Zealand and Nepal on January 13th and 15th in the official warm-up fixtures. USA will face Pakistan in their opening counter on January 18 to kick off their campaign and will then face England and Ireland in their group B league fixtures.
