Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 28 runs in the 3rd match of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup 2024. On the other hand, Nepal stunned Pakistan to clinch a memorable 6-wicket victory in the 4th match of the tournament.

Hosts Malaysia, led by skipper Nur Daniya Syuhada, was up against Bangladesh, led by skipper Sumaiya Akter, in the 5th match of the tournament.

Sadia Akter and Jannatul Maoua’s reviving stand powers Bangladesh to 149

Bangladesh openers Mosammat Eva (19 off 16 balls) and Fahomida Choya got their side off to a flying start with a 45-run opening partnership after skipper Sumaiya Akter won the toss and opted to bat first. Marsya Qistina Binti Abdullah picked up the wicket of Fahomida Choya (26 off 21 balls) to provide the first breakthrough for Malaysia. A collapse followed, and, as a result, Bangladesh lost their next four wickets for just 42 runs.

Sadia Akter (31* off 19 balls) joined Jannatul Maoua (45* off 45 balls) at the crease and the duo took their side to a competitive total of 149/5 in their quota of 20 overs with an unbeaten 62-run 6th wicket partnership, as the pair contributed to more than 50% of the team’s total. Marsya Qistina Binti Abdullah (4-0-19-3), and Nur Isma Dania Binti Mohd Daniel (4-0-25-2) were the star performers with the ball for hosts Malaysia.

The Bangladeshi bowling attack led by Nishita Akter Nishi ran through Malaysia’s batting line-up in no time, bowling the hosts out for 29 with 31 balls to spare, as a result, falling short of the target by a massive margin of 120 runs. None of the Malaysian batters managed to enter into the double digits. Nishita Akter Nishi’s five-wicket haul (3.5-1-3-5) triggered the collapse, while Habiba Islam (4-1-5-3), and Anisa Akter Soba (4-1-5-2) also played their part with the ball for Bangladesh.
