The 16th match of the T20 Spring Challenge 2025–26 was an exciting showdown between the Sydney Sixers Women and the Melbourne Renegades Women, with the Renegades coming out on top after a commanding all-round performance. Their depth in batting, well-timed partnerships, and disciplined bowling led them to a convincing 32-run victory, a crucial win in their campaign.

Opting to bat first, the Renegades started cautiously as the Sixers’ bowlers kept tight lines in the early overs. Tess Flintoff set a positive tone, hitting a few boundaries before falling for 12 off 15 balls, leaving the Renegades at 12 for 1. After that, Nicole Faltum and Naomi Stalenberg took charge, expertly anchoring the innings. Their partnership proved vital, blending aggression with smart rotation of strikes. Faltum was the backbone, scoring a composed 52 off 38 deliveries with six boundaries, while Stalenberg added flair with a quick 30 off just 17 balls, including five fours.
Together, they built an impressive 82-run partnership for the second wicket, propelling the team past the 90-run mark and setting the stage for a solid finish. After Stalenberg’s dismissal, Courtney Webb and Sarah Coyte ramped up the scoring in the final overs. Webb blasted 29 runs off just 11 balls, featuring four fours and a six, while Coyte ended her innings unbeaten on 21 from eight balls with two towering sixes. Their late surge pushed the Renegades to a strong total of 163 for 6 in 16 overs, a total that looked challenging under the circumstances.
The Sixers’ bowling effort had its highs and lows. Courtney Sippel stood out with 2 for 23 in her three overs, showing great control. Meanwhile, Caoimhe Bray and Frances Nicklin each took a wicket but conceded runs at a higher rate, returning figures of 1/28 and 1/35, respectively. Claire Moore also chipped in with a wicket but ended up giving away 38 runs in her three overs.
Chasing 164, the Sixers needed a strong start, but early wickets threw a wrench in their plans. Elsa Hunter gave a glimmer of hope with a brisk 19 off 14 balls, smashing four boundaries, but her dismissal at 14 for 1 put the brakes on their momentum. The middle order struggled for runs as Lauren Kua and Erin Burns fell for ducks, with the Renegades’ bowlers consistently taking wickets at crucial times. Even with a couple of brief partnerships, no batter was able to deliver a substantial knock that could anchor the innings or lower the required run rate.
Caoimhe Bray gave late sparks with her innings of 38 off 21, and Maitlan Brown also scored 11 off 7. Ultimately, the innings folded at 131, leaving the Sixers 32 runs short of their target. It was a disappointing conclusion to what had started as a promising chase. The Renegades’ sharp fielding and effective death bowling ensured a comfortable finish for them.
On the bowling front, the Renegades were disciplined and effective. Sarah Coyte delivered a standout performance with figures of 2 for 22 in three overs, putting pressure on the batters at key moments. Charis Bekker was the star, taking 3 wickets while conceding just 19 runs in three overs. Tess Flintoff also contributed with 1 for 32 in her four overs, skillfully varying her pace. Emma de Broughe added to the effort with 1 for 20 in her two overs, while the rest of the bowlers maintained tight lines to restrict scoring opportunities.
