The T20 Spring Challenge 2025 is set to bring Australia’s best domestic women’s cricketers back into the spotlight when the competition returns for its second season from October 21. Designed to bridge the gap between state-level cricket and the Women’s Big Bash League, the Spring Challenge ensures that emerging and established players alike maintain valuable match practice before the marquee WBBL season.
Featuring nine teams, including the eight Big Bash clubs and the ACT Meteors, the event promises high-quality contests across Sydney’s leading venues: North Sydney Oval, Cricket Central, Blacktown International Sports Park, and Drummoyne Oval. Fans can look forward to 21 matches of free admission, alongside complete live coverage on Kayo, cricket.com.au, and the CA Live app.
Introduced in 2024 following the WBBL’s decision to reduce its regular season from 14 to 10 games, the Spring Challenge has quickly earned a key spot on the domestic calendar. The competition is not only a fine-tuning opportunity for WBBL clubs but also a golden chance for uncontracted players to catch selectors’ attention, with every team required to reserve one domestic spot for the tournament.
The carnival-style event will open with two Sydney derbies on October 21, featuring the Sydney Sixers against inaugural champions Hobart Hurricanes at North Sydney Oval, followed by the Sydney Thunder’s clash with the ACT Meteors later in the day. Two additional fixtures will also light up Cricket Central to round off a packed opening day.
Across the 10-day schedule, teams will each face four different opponents before the top four progress to the semifinals on October 29, setting the stage for the grand final at Cricket Central on October 30.
