Germany Women began cautiously after Switzerland Women opted to field first, with the opening pair of Wilhelmina Hornero-Garcia and debutant Aanvi Kishore looking to settle against a disciplined new-ball spell. The pair stitched together 47 runs for the opening wicket, providing Germany with a solid platform despite Switzerland keeping the boundaries under control. Hornero-Garcia anchored the innings beautifully, striking 36 off 39 balls with three fours, while Kishore supported well with 16 from 25 deliveries.

Switzerland found the breakthrough when Vani Dhanuka dismissed Kishore, and the momentum shifted almost immediately as Natalie Clarke removed Shravya Kolcharam for 7, reducing Germany to 57/2. The pressure continued to mount when Naina Metty Saju trapped Kirsten Simone-Kingsley for 1, leaving Germany at 60/3 midway through the innings. Switzerland’s bowlers continued to chip away at regular intervals, preventing Germany from building another substantial partnership. Ameya Kanukuntla managed only 2, while Aishani Kishore added 3, with Naina Metty Saju and Samiha Konuganti sharing the wickets to leave Germany struggling at 76/6.

The innings needed rebuilding, and Rameesha Shahid responded with an important counterattack, scoring 18 off 18 balls, including a boundary. She shared a valuable 32-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Asmita Kohli, who contributed a composed 14 from 16 deliveries, helping Germany recover from a difficult position. Once Shahid departed, Kohli and Verena Stolle added another useful stand before Kohli fell in the penultimate over. Stolle remained positive throughout her unbeaten stay, scoring 5 off 4 balls, while Antonia Meyenborg stayed unbeaten at the other end as Germany closed on 118/9 in 20 overs, aided by 15 extras.

Switzerland’s bowling effort was impressive throughout the innings, with every bowler making an impact. Naina Metty Saju produced the standout spell, returning 4-0-22-4, dismissing Kirsten Simone-Kingsley, Ameya Kanukuntla, Aishani Kishore and Rameesha Shahid at crucial moments. Samiha Konuganti claimed 1/20 from three overs, while Meghna Rajan picked up 2/17 in four overs, including the important wicket of Wilhelmina Hornero-Garcia. Vani Dhanuka bowled economically, conceding just 16 runs in four overs while taking the wicket of Aanvi Kishore. Natalie Clarke conceded 10 off her only over, while skipper Danashi Medagoda completed the bowling effort with one over.

Chasing 119 for victory, Switzerland never quite found the momentum required during the powerplay as Germany’s bowlers maintained disciplined lines. Laïla Pickard scored 15 off 18 balls, but Antonia Meyenborg struck first to break the opening stand. Soon after, Aishani Kishore, supported by Iris Edwards, removed Amrita Sasidharan for 4, leaving Switzerland at 22/2. Meyenborg returned to dismiss the dangerous Vani Dhanuka for 10, reducing the visitors to 44/3 after 8.6 overs. Germany tightened the screws further when Meghna Rajan, who had begun rebuilding the innings, fell for 32 from 46 balls after adding 65 runs for the fourth wicket with Franziska Kuenburg, making the score 109/4 in the 18.3rd over.

Despite losing partners around her, Franziska Kuenburg kept Switzerland in contention with a calm and measured innings. Remaining unbeaten on 32 off 33 balls, she shared an unfinished 7-run stand with captain Danashi Medagoda, who stayed unbeaten on 3 off 5 deliveries. Switzerland required only a handful of runs in the final over, but Germany executed their plans brilliantly, conceding just enough to seal a dramatic 2-run victory as the visitors finished on 116/4 in 20 overs. The chase was also helped by 20 extras, but Germany’s bowlers held their composure under pressure to deny Switzerland a memorable finish.
