India is currently hosting the Proteas from June 16 to July 9 for a three-match ODI series, a one-off test, and a concluding three-match T20I series. India secured a clean sweep in the ODI series, winning 3-0. After a 143-run victory in the inaugural ODI, followed by a narrow four-run win in the second, they concluded the series with a six-wicket victory in the final match, all held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Following the ODIs, they secured a 10-wicket win against the Proteas in the one-off test. In the initial T20I of the three-match T20I series, South Africa made a comeback and registered their maiden victory in the multi-format series.
In the inaugural T20I, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bowl. South Africa set an impressive total of 189/4 in their 20 overs, with Tazmin Brits scoring 81 off 56 balls and building a 50-run opening partnership with Laura Wolvaardt, followed by a 96-run partnership with Marizanne Kapp, who added 57 off 33 balls. Radha Yadav and Pooja Vastrakar both claimed 2 wickets. Despite a strong start from Smriti Mandhana, who scored 46 runs off 30 balls, and a valiant effort from Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored an unbeaten 53 off 30 balls, as well as Harmanpreet Kaur’s 35 runs, India fell short of the target by 12 runs, ending with a total of 177/4 in their 20 overs. Ayabonga Khaka and Chloe Tryon were effective for the South African bowling lineup with economical spells, claiming crucial wickets and securing a narrow victory by 12 runs.
Fans shared their excitement on the social media site “X,” which was formerly known as Twitter, as they celebrated the Proteas’s maiden victory in the multi-format series against the hosts India. The overwhelmingly positive response that was seen on social media was a reflection of the fans’ pride and excitement at seeing such a powerful performance.
