Dilara Akter Hits Record 22-Ball Fifty as Bangladesh Beat Netherlands in Scotland Tri-Series

In a rain-affected encounter at the Grange Cricket Club Ground in Edinburgh, the Bangladesh Women vs Netherlands Women clash in the Scotland Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026 turned into a fast-paced eight-over contest that delivered plenty of excitement. After a delayed start forced officials to reduce the match to eight overs per side, Bangladesh Women adapted brilliantly to the shortened format, showing aggressive intent right from the beginning. Their attacking mindset eventually helped them secure a 13-run victory over Netherlands Women, with star batter Dilara Akter producing a sensational knock that shaped the outcome of the game.

Bangladesh Women’s innings began with positive momentum during the mandatory powerplay, where they raced to 27 runs without losing a wicket in 2.2 overs. Openers Dilara Akter and Juairiya Ferdous looked determined to take advantage of the field restrictions, playing fearless cricket from the outset. The pair stitched together a lively 42-run opening partnership, setting a strong platform in a shortened game where every delivery mattered. Juairiya contributed a useful 13 runs off 8 balls, including two boundaries, before she was dismissed by Iris Zwilling, with Myrthe van den Raad involved in the catch as Bangladesh slipped to 42/1 in the third over.

What followed was an innings-defining exhibition from Dilara Akter, who completely shifted the momentum in Bangladesh Women’s favour. Timing the ball cleanly and finding the boundary with ease, Dilara reached her half-century in just 22 deliveries, eventually finishing with a blistering 51 off 26 balls, smashing eight fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 196.15. She found support from Sobhana Mostary, who remained unbeaten on 11 from 9 balls, as the pair added important runs in the middle overs to keep the scoreboard moving rapidly.

Bangladesh briefly lost momentum when skipper Nigar Sultana scored a quickfire 9 off just 4 deliveries, including two boundaries, before becoming Heather Siegers’ only wicket, caught by Babette de Leede. Soon after, the Netherlands celebrated a massive breakthrough when Dilara Akter departed for 51, dismissed by Iris Zwilling in the seventh over with Bangladesh at 82/2. However, Bangladesh ensured there was no slowdown in the closing phase as Shorna Akter remained unbeaten on 3 from 2 balls, combining with Sobhana to finish strongly. Bangladesh Women closed their innings at 98/3 in 8 overs, boosted by 11 extras, a commanding score in an abbreviated contest.

From a bowling perspective, the Netherlands Women had mixed fortunes. Iris Zwilling stood out with figures of 1/18 in 2 overs, dismissing the dangerous Dilara Akter. Heather Siegers chipped in with 1/17 in 2 overs, while Myrthe van den Raad bowled economically and claimed 1 wicket for 16 runs. Isabel van der Woning, Hannah Landheer, and Silver Siegers struggled to contain Bangladesh’s aggressive batting, conceding runs under pressure in a high-scoring power-hitting display.

Chasing 99 runs in 8 overs, Netherlands Women also began positively, scoring 31 without loss in the powerplay (2.2 overs). The opening partnership between Heather Siegers and captain Babette de Leede kept the chase alive early on, with both batters attacking the Bangladesh bowlers. Heather made 21 off 15 balls, hitting three boundaries, while Babette played an explosive innings of 30 from just 14 deliveries, striking five fours at a strike rate above 214. Their efforts helped Netherlands cross 50 runs in only 4.2 overs, ensuring the chase remained competitive.

Bangladesh, however, pulled things back through disciplined bowling and timely breakthroughs. Farina Trisna proved highly effective, removing both Heather Siegers and Babette de Leede to finish with excellent figures of 2/20 in her 2 overs. The dismissal of Babette at 52/2 shifted the momentum decisively. Soon after, Frederique Overdijk added 9 runs from 4 balls before being run out by Ritu Moni, while Robine Rijke played a fighting hand of 21 from 12 deliveries, including two fours and a six, briefly reviving Dutch hopes.

The Netherlands innings started to unravel when Phoebe Molkenboer departed for a duck, becoming Ritu Moni’s second wicket after being stumped by captain Nigar Sultana. Despite a late unbeaten 2 from 2 balls by Sanya Khurana, Netherlands Women ultimately finished at 85/5 in 8 overs, falling 13 runs short.

Bangladesh’s bowlers played a decisive role in defending the total. Ritu Moni was outstanding with 2 wickets for only 11 runs in 2 overs, controlling the middle phase expertly. Farina Trisna’s 2/20 provided crucial breakthroughs, while Marufa Akter, Rabeya Khan, and Sanjida Akter Meghla contributed with tight spells to maintain pressure in the closing overs.
