England Women put up a dominant show in the first game of the 3-match ODI series against their Pakistan counterparts. The rain-interrupted match was held at Kinrara Academy Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

England on winning the toss decided to put runs on the scoreboard first. Openers Tammy Beaumont and Danni Wyatt had a day to remember. Both steered on to form a beautiful partnership as the Pakistan bowlers didn’t trouble them much. Wyatt made her maiden ODI century. Beaumont followed her opening partner. She made her 7th ODI ton in this match. The 188-run stand was finally broken when Wyatt handed a simple return catch to Bismah Maroof. Her 95-ball 110 was studded with 12 fours and 3 sixes. Debutant Rameen Shamim then removed Beaumont in the 45th over. Tammy hit 9 fours en route her 107(141). Captain Heather Knight added 41 runs to her team’s tally before falling to Nashra Sandhu. Shamim took 2 more wickets to restrict England’s run flow in the last overs. England finished on 284/6.

Pakistan lost their first wicket in the 2nd over in the form of Nahida Khan who was bowled by Anya Shrubsole. Fellow opener Sidra Ameen departed the next over, giving England an upper hand earlier in the innings. Kate Cross’ first of the 4 wickets came when Javeria Khan was bowled on 19(32). Captain Bismah Maroof and Umaima Sohail then build a steady partnership. Nat Sciver bowled Sohail 29(48) in the 26th over but Maroof stayed on to complete her half-century. She made 69 runs which came in 94 balls. Nida Dar 18(31) and Aliya Riaz 39(35) too chipped in some runs. But the English bowlers won the final battle as they took all the wickets of Pakistan within 45 overs. Pakistan could make only 209 runs before getting all-out. Cross obtained a 4-wicket haul while Katherine Brunt and debutant Sarah Glenn scalped two wickets each. England won the match by 75 runs.
