We are in the middle of the 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the United Arab Emirates. A total of 10 teams are battling out for glory. The final of the tournament will be played on 20th October 2024 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium from 7:30 PM IST.
However, the cricketing action will continue, as the New Zealand women’s team led by skipper Sophie Devine will tour India for a three-match bilateral ODI series from 24th October 2024 and conclude on 29th October 2024. All the matches of the series will be played in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The three-match ODI series will be a part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championships 2022-25.
The last time New Zealand visited India for a bilateral series, was way back in the year 2015. They ended up on the losing side in the ODI series (3-2), but cliched the T20I series (2-1). The upcoming series would be very crucial for the White Ferns, considering their position in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 table. They are currently placed 6th in the table with 18 points from 18 games including 8 victories and 8 defeats and a couple of washed-out games.

A total of the top five teams from the table, including the hosts, (India) will progress to the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, in India, next year (2025). A series win for New Zealand could ease things a little bit for the White Ferns when it comes to the qualification for the ODI World Cup next year. The remaining four teams will have to go through the qualifiers to book their spot in the ODI World Cup in 2025.
The players participating in the series will most likely miss the first few matches of the landmark 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) from 27th October to 1st December 2024.
