Brazil Women Win Kalahari T20 Final as Botswana Fold for 37 Despite Tuelo Shadrack’s 4-Fer

The final match of the Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026, held on April 11 at the Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1 in Gaborone, was a gripping, low-scoring thriller that saw Brazil Women edge out the hosts, Botswana Women, to claim the title.

In a game dominated by the ball, Botswana chose to bat first but struggled to find any momentum, eventually being bundled out for a meager 37 runs in 11.1 overs. While the chase seemed like a formality, Botswana’s bowlers put up a spirited fight, making Brazil sweat for every run before the visitors finally crossed the finish line with a 3-wicket victory.

The afternoon began with Botswana winning the toss and electing to bat, a decision they hoped would allow them to set a competitive target under the pressure of a final. However, the plan unraveled almost immediately. The Brazilian bowling attack was relentless from the first over, using the humid conditions to their advantage. Botswana’s top order found it impossible to settle, with Keletso Raphapha falling for a duck in the very first over. The pressure only intensified as the Brazilian fielders remained sharp, drying up the singles and forcing the batters into risky shots.

The middle-order offered very little resistance against a disciplined Brazilian side. Tailender Mpho Modise was the only batter who showed any signs of aggression, hitting two boundaries in her short stay of 12* runs off 14 balls. Beyond her, the scorecard made for grim reading for the home fans. Lindsay Boas was the architect of the destruction, tearing through the lineup to finish with exceptional figures of 3 wickets for just 9 runs in her 2 overs. She was ably supported by Lara Moisés and Marianne Artur, who picked up two wickets apiece, leaving Botswana in ruins at 37 all out.

With only 38 runs needed for glory, Brazil walked out with confidence, but Botswana’s captain Tuelo Shadrack had other ideas. Refusing to let the game go without a fight, Shadrack produced one of the most remarkable bowling spells in T20I history. Charging in with incredible accuracy, she dismantled the Brazilian top and middle order. Shadrack claimed a stunning 4 wickets for just 7 runs in her 4 overs, including a maiden. Her performance turned what should have been a walk in the park into a nerve-wracking scramble for the visitors.

At one stage, Brazil found themselves reeling as wickets tumbled in quick succession. The tension at the ground was palpable as the score sat at 17 for 5, then 35 for 7. Botswana sensed a miraculous comeback was on the cards. However, Marianne Artur proved to be the calm head Brazil needed. She managed to find the gaps and rotate the strike, scoring a crucial 9 runs off 6 balls—a small number in most games, but a match-winning contribution in this low-scoring battle. Along with Roberta Moretti Avery, who hung around for an unbeaten 8, they slowly chipped away at the target.

The end finally came in the 10th over. Despite the relentless pressure from the Botswana fielders and the vocal home crowd, Brazil managed to scramble the final few runs. They reached 38 for 7 in 9.5 overs, securing a 3-wicket win with 61 balls to spare. It was a victory defined by grit rather than flair, as Brazil survived a masterclass in defensive bowling to ensure the trophy headed back with them.

While Tuelo Shadrack’s four-wicket haul was the talk of the stadium, the Player of the Match honors went to Lindsay Boas for her pivotal role in the first innings collapse that ultimately set the stage for Brazil’s win. Botswana finished with 37 runs in 11.1 overs, while Brazil responded with 38/7 in 9.5 overs. This final served as a reminder of how unpredictable T20 cricket can be, proving that even a tiny target can provide immense drama when the stakes are at their highest.
