The innings began with intent as Botswana’s opening pair of Pako Mapotsane and Laura Mophakedi looked to set the tone early. The duo stitched together a steady 47-run opening partnership, carefully navigating the early overs while capitalising on loose deliveries. Mapotsane anchored the innings with a composed 41 off 48 balls, striking five boundaries, while Mophakedi contributed a fluent 27 off 29 balls, including four fours. Their stand laid a solid platform before Mophakedi fell at 8.6 overs, caught off Laura Chipanga’s bowling.

Mapotsane continued to hold firm, building another crucial partnership with Oratile Kgeresi. The pair added 60 runs for the second wicket, accelerating the scoring rate during the middle overs. Kgeresi played a brisk knock of 24 from 23 balls, ensuring the momentum stayed with Botswana. However, Mozambique struck back briefly as Mapotsane departed at 15.6 overs with the score at 107, followed soon after by Goabilwe Matome, who added a quick 14 off 10 balls.

Despite these wickets, Botswana’s lower middle order ensured there was no slowdown. Amantle Mokgotlhe provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 7 off 4 balls, while captain Tuelo Shadrack stayed till the end with 3* off 7 deliveries. Botswana finished strongly at 139/4 in their 20 overs, boosted by 23 extras. Mozambique’s bowlers had mixed success, with Angelica Salomao, Laura Chipanga, and Regina Mazumba picking up a wicket each, while Palmira Cuinica was economical with 0/19 in her four overs.

Chasing a target of 140, Mozambique Women endured a nightmare start as Botswana’s bowlers came out firing. Tuelo Shadrack led from the front with a sensational spell, dismantling the top order early. Olga Mondlane fell for a duck at 0.2 overs, followed by Palmira Cuinica and Amelia Mundundo as Mozambique slumped to 3/6 within the powerplay. Shadrack’s precision and control were evident as she returned figures of 4/3 in 4 overs, completely breaking the backbone of the chase.

The wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals, with Goabilwe Matome and Amantle Mokgotlhe providing excellent support. Matome picked up 1/14 in her four overs, while Mokgotlhe claimed 2/17, ensuring no partnerships could develop. Oratile Kgeresi also chipped in with 1/7 in her two overs, maintaining the pressure.

Mozambique briefly showed resistance through Regina Mazumba, who top-scored with an unbeaten 17 off 17 balls, and Isabel Chuma, who added 6 runs. However, the lack of meaningful partnerships hurt them badly, as wickets fell consistently, from 21/4 to 27/6 and eventually 58 all out in just 16.4 overs. Pako Mapotsane also made an impact with the ball, taking 2 wickets in 1.4 overs to wrap up the innings.

Botswana’s bowling unit was disciplined and relentless, conceding very few scoring opportunities while capitalising on every mistake. Mozambique’s batters struggled against both pace and spin, with only Cristina Magaia (10 off 13) and Mazumba managing to reach double figures.

This comprehensive performance highlighted Botswana Women’s dominance in all departments, from solid partnerships in batting to a lethal bowling attack led by Tuelo Shadrack. The 81-run victory not only boosts their standing in the tournament but also reinforces their credentials as strong contenders, thanks to their balanced and clinical approach.
