Mozambique Women held their nerve in a low-scoring but competitive encounter against Botswana Women in the 6th match of the Kalahari Women’s T20I Tournament 2026 in Gaborone, crafting a well-fought victory built on disciplined bowling and timely batting contributions.

After being put into bat, Mozambique Women had a cautious start as Botswana’s bowlers struck early to keep things tight. Olga Mondlane managed 8 off 15 balls before falling at 15/2 in 4.1 overs, with Palmira Cuinica departing even earlier for a duck at 5/1. The early breakthroughs were led by Tuelo Shadrack, who bowled with control and finished with impressive figures of 2/17 in her 4 overs, while Wendy Moutswi and Goabilwe Matome also chipped in with a wicket each.
With the innings under pressure at 15/2, a rebuilding phase followed as Amelia Mundundo and Wisley Bucuane steadied things. The pair added 44 runs for the third wicket, taking the score to 59 in 11.3 overs. Mundundo played patiently for her 18 off 34 balls before being dismissed at 76/4 in 13.4 overs, while Bucuane contributed a handy 20 off 25 deliveries before falling earlier at 59/3. Cristina Magaia then added some momentum with a brisk 22 off 23 balls, stitching together a small but crucial partnership to push the score forward.
However, Botswana continued to chip away with wickets at regular intervals. Shadrack returned to remove Magaia, while Amantle Mokgothle claimed 2/12 in 3 overs, including key middle-order scalps. Isabel Chuma was run out for 4, and Abelina Moiane fell for a duck, leaving Mozambique at 69/6 in 17.3 overs. A late push from Rosalia Haiong (3* off 12) and Regina Mazumba (3* off 3) ensured the innings closed without further damage. Extras played a major role, contributing 28 runs, as Mozambique reached 106/7 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Botswana Women’s chase began shakily as they lost Oratile Kgeresi for a duck at 1/1 in the very first over via a run-out, immediately putting them on the back foot. Laura Mophakedi and Wendy Moutswi attempted to rebuild, adding 14 runs for the second wicket before Mophakedi fell for 9 at 17/2 in 4.5 overs. Moutswi, who was beginning to settle, unfortunately had to retire hurt after scoring 2, further denting Botswana’s chase.
Tuelo Shadrack, coming in next, tried to anchor the innings with a steady 10 off 13 balls, sharing a brief partnership with Goabilwe Matome. The pair took the score to 37 before Shadrack was dismissed at 7.4 overs. Matome continued to fight, remaining unbeaten on 17 off 21 balls, but lacked consistent support from the other end.
The middle order struggled to cope with Mozambique’s disciplined bowling. Pako Mapotsane scored 4 before falling at 43/4, while Amantle Mokgothle (4) and Mpho Modise (0) were both dismissed by the impressive Laura Chipanga, who turned the game decisively with her spell. Thialefo Godisang also fell cheaply, leaving Botswana reeling at 53/7 in 11.6 overs.
A brief resistance came from Kesego Inakale, who scored 8 off 14 balls, but wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. Botswana eventually finished on 83/9 in 17.2 overs, falling short by 23 runs.
Mozambique’s bowling unit was led brilliantly by Laura Chipanga, who delivered a match-winning performance with 4 wickets for 20 runs in 3.2 overs, earning the Player of the Match award. She was well supported by Palmira Cuinica (1/14), Angelica Salomao (1/10), Regina Mazumba (1/19), and Amelia Mundundo (1/12), all of whom maintained pressure and picked up crucial wickets at key moments.
This match highlighted Mozambique Women’s ability to recover from early batting setbacks and defend a modest total through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Botswana Women showed flashes of resilience but were ultimately undone by regular wickets and lack of sustained partnerships.
