The Typhoons produced a commanding all-round display to defeat the Dragons by 35 runs in Match 2 of the Super Series Cup at Oak Hill Cricket Club on 6 August 2026. While the margin of victory suggests a comfortable result, the contest remained alive for most of the chase as the Dragons mounted a spirited response. However, a monumental innings from Gaby Lewis laid the perfect foundation for the Typhoons before their bowlers held their nerve at crucial moments to defend the imposing target in an entertaining Women’s One-Day Match.
After being asked to bat, the Typhoons began positively with L Maritz and G Lewis taking charge from the outset. The opening pair quickly settled into rhythm, punishing anything loose and rotating the strike effectively. Maritz played the supporting role brilliantly while Lewis dominated the scoring. Together, they stitched a magnificent 161-run opening partnership, putting the Dragons’ bowling attack under immense pressure. Maritz’s excellent knock came to an end after scoring 68 off 86 balls, striking 10 boundaries, as she was run out in the 26th over, giving the Dragons their first breakthrough.
Despite losing her opening partner, Lewis showed no signs of slowing down. She found another reliable ally in Laura Delany, and the pair ensured the momentum never dipped. Delany played an intelligent supporting innings, allowing Lewis to continue her relentless assault on the bowlers. The duo added an unbeaten 229-run partnership for the third wicket, completely taking the game away from the Dragons.
Lewis remained the star of the innings with a sensational 198 off just 138 deliveries, smashing 27 fours and two sixes, narrowly missing out on a deserved double century. Delany contributed an equally valuable unbeaten 86 from 68 balls, including nine boundaries, while Louise Little provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 19 off only 10 deliveries, striking one four and one six. The Typhoons closed their innings on a massive 390/2 in 50 overs, boosted further by 19 extras.
The Dragons’ bowlers endured a difficult outing against the relentless batting display. J Jackson was the most economical, returning figures of 0/25 in four overs. Zara Craig picked up the only wicket, with the other coming off a runout, dismissing Lewis for 1/66 from nine overs. Lara McBride bowled a disciplined spell despite going wicketless, conceding 60 runs in her 10 overs, while Penny Speer finished with 0/70. Alana Dalzell leaked 82 runs in her full quota, and Cara Murray also found it difficult to contain the scoring, ending with 0/80 from seven overs.
Faced with a daunting chase, the Dragons knew they needed an aggressive start. Although Sophie Reid departed for 20, the innings gathered momentum through a 50-run partnership between Anna Harrison (34) and Amy Hunter (40). After Harrison’s dismissal, Hunter combined with Zara Craig, adding another useful stand that kept the required rate within touching distance.
The chase truly came alive when Zara Craig and Leah Paul joined forces. Craig played an enterprising innings of 70 from 74 balls, hitting eight fours, while Paul was outstanding with a blistering 117 off just 74 deliveries, smashing 20 boundaries. Their 165-run partnership shifted the pressure back onto the Typhoons and briefly raised hopes of an extraordinary chase. Even after Craig fell, Paul continued attacking until she was dismissed after reaching a superb century.
Following Paul’s departure, the Typhoons regained complete control. Alana Dalzell (3), Annabel Squires (13) and Lara McBride (1) were unable to build meaningful partnerships, while Cara Murray remained unbeaten on 6 and Penny Speer finished not out on 2. The Dragons eventually concluded their innings on 355/8 in 50 overs, with 49 extras contributing significantly to their total, but they still fell 35 runs short of the target.
The Typhoons’ bowling unit shared the workload effectively despite defending a huge total. Louise Little was the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets for 64 runs in nine overs. Jane Maguire delivered an economical spell of 2/46 in 10 overs, while Ellie McGee also picked up 2/51 from six overs to halt the Dragons’ momentum during the middle overs.
