The visitors gained valuable experience of the Indian conditions ahead of a crucial ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in India, in October, later this year, if they are to make it to the event through the qualifiers.

Ireland suffered a heart-breaking ODI series whitewash against India. However, everything wasn’t too gloomy for the Gaby Lewis-led side as they notched up their highest total against India (254/7) in Women’s ODIs in the 2nd game of the series, though, it wasn’t enough as they eventually ended up on the losing side by 116 runs.

G S Lakshmi, ICC’s international panel match referee, has penalized the Ireland women’s team 10% of the match fees for falling two overs short of the required target despite the additional time allowances in the 3rd ODI at the Niranjan Shah Stadium, in Rajkot (Wednesday).

The Ireland skipper Gaby Lewis has accepted the offence and hence there was no need for an official, formal hearing. The on-field umpires Kim Cotton and Akshay Totre, alongside the 3rd umpire Virender Sharma and the fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi reviewed the violation.

As per the ICC Code of Conduct for the Players and Player Support Personnel mentioned in Article 2.22, the players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over if their side fails to bowl within the allotted time for completion.
