Minnu Mani aims for a stronger One-day performance against hosts Australia A

Minnu Mani, the captain of the India women’s A team on their ongoing tour of Australia, addressed her thoughts following the conclusion of the three-match Twenty20 (T20) series against Australia A, where the host team emerged victorious 3-0. Ahead of the One-Day series, Mani acknowledged that there is room for improvement within the squad as they head into the three-match series, which kicks off tomorrow in Queensland.

The three One Dayers will be played from August 14th to August 18th, followed by a four-day unofficial Test starting on August 22nd.

Mani expressed her excitement about the upcoming One-Day series against Australia, underscoring the significance of facing such a strong team. She reflected on the team’s preparation and noted the squad’s determination to elevate their performance and make a strong comeback after the T20 series loss.

“Getting a chance to play against Australia is a wonderful opportunity. We discussed ways to improve, and I am confident we will perform better in the one-dayers,” said Minnu Mani during a media interaction ahead of the One-Day series.

The India A skipper also assured that the team’s spirit remains high and highlighted the resilience within the squad ahead of the three One Dayers. She pointed to the positive atmosphere within the team, which is ready to put its best foot forward in the remaining matches against the hosts.

“Winning or losing doesn’t affect our team’s coordination. We are united and in good spirits for the 50-over series commencing from Wednesday,” Mani affirmed.

Reflecting on her role as a leader, Mani stressed the importance of responsibility and growth in challenging situations. She acknowledged the value of recent experiences and her commitment to the team’s development in the upcoming matches, aiming to improve as they gain more experience.

“As a captain, I feel I should contribute to the team whatever the situation and show responsibility,” she stated.

Mani also spoke about the team’s approach during the ongoing tour, noting the experimentation with shuffling the batting order. She praised Kiran Navgire’s performance lower down the order in the third T20, where Navgire scored a brilliant 38 off 20 balls.
