The Netherlands Women showed their strong arrival in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026 with a composed 22-run victory over Zimbabwe Women in a closely watched contest. Batting first, the Netherlands Women posted a competitive total of 122 in their 20 overs. The innings began on a cautious note as Zimbabwe’s bowlers kept things tight in the powerplay. Heather Siegers gave the Netherlands an early start but was dismissed for 6, while skipper Babette de Leede departed without troubling the scorers, leaving the side needing stability in the middle.

That stability came through Phebe Molkenboer and Sterre Kalis. Molkenboer anchored the innings with a composed 27 off 26 balls, showing patience and good shot selection. At the other end, Kalis played a mature knock of 26 from 29 deliveries, rotating the strike well and ensuring the innings did not stall. Their partnership helped the Netherlands rebuild after early losses and laid the foundation for a defendable total.

The middle and lower order chipped in with useful contributions. Robine Rijke added momentum with a quick 15 off 11 balls, while Frederique Overdijk struck at an impressive rate, scoring 12 from just 8 deliveries. Though wickets fell regularly towards the end, the Netherlands managed to push the score past the 120-run mark, aided by 17 extras conceded by Zimbabwe, which proved costly.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers worked hard throughout the innings. Christabel Chatonzwa was the pick of the attack, claiming five wickets, while Josephine Nkomo and Audrey Mazvishaya picked up one each. Despite their efforts, Zimbabwe were unable to completely contain the batters in the latter half of the innings.

In reply, Zimbabwe Women were set a target of 123 but struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Early wickets put them on the back foot, and the pressure continued to mount as the Netherlands bowlers maintained disciplined lines and lengths. Nyasha Gwanzura was the standout performer with the bat for Zimbabwe, scoring an impressive 27 off just 16 balls and briefly threatening to change the course of the match with her aggressive approach.

Chiedza Dhururu contributed 16, while Modester Mupachikwa added 12, but a lack of partnerships hurt Zimbabwe’s chase. Regular wickets meant they were never quite able to build sustained momentum, and the asking rate kept creeping up. Zimbabwe eventually finished on 100 for 8 in their 20 overs, falling 22 runs short of the target.

The Netherlands bowling unit delivered a collective effort, with Iris Zwilling standing out for her control and economy. Support from Caroline de Lange, Robine Rijke, and sharp fielding ensured Zimbabwe were kept under constant pressure.

Overall, it was a well-balanced performance from the Netherlands Women in this crucial World Cup Qualifier encounter. Zimbabwe showed flashes of promise, particularly through Gwanzura’s innings, but the Netherlands’ consistency with both bat and ball earned them a deserved 22-run victory.
